Local abstract artist Elise Higginson grew up in the Burdekin and was delighted recently when she was made aware that for the second time, one of her paintings had been chosen by Flying Arts Alliance to tour around the state in their annual touring exhibition. Flyings Arts mission statement says they exist to “inspire the appreciation, practice and professional development of the visual and arts media as a lifetime interest or career.” Their annual event the Queensland Regional Art Awards is an annual visual arts competition and exhibition for established and emerging artists living in regional and remote Queensland. Elise first won a spot in the touring exhibition in 2014 with her abstract painting of a cane fire. This piece subsequently sold while on tour. But that is not the only success she has enjoyed with Flying Arts. In 2011 she won the “People’s Choice” award which resulted in an exciting trip to Brisbane to spend $700 at Brisbane Art Shed. Her current piece in the QRAA exhibition is entitled “Tropical Paradise” which is an abstract piece suggestive of colourful tropical foliage. See featured photo.
Outside of the Queensland Regional Art Award successes Elise has participated in many group exhibitions as well as achieving her own solo exhibition at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery where she exhibited in 2014. Elise wishes to continue doing more exhibitions and to travel with her art, selling it at markets. For now the local girl is busy painting and producing more creative work towards that goal.
