Australia: a man who had threatened the prime minister died

A man who had threatened Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has died after confronting police in Melbourne, local media reported Tuesday.

According to what was reported, the man attacked two police officers with a knife before other uniformed officers shot him and caused his death.

According to ABC, the man was under official surveillance and being investigated for terrorism charges.

The two police officers were taken to a nearby hospital where they received medical attention. One of them is in critical but stable condition.
